New from Karl Schmidt Verlag!

Hello Again,

As promised, two new albums arrive today from KSV. Each deserves your undivided attention, but of course, as a monster with an alienating bias, my entreaties should be weighed acccordingly. Decide for yourselves if you can stand another bloody second living in a world of denuded culture. If you're ready to run toward a resolutely opaque zone, we'll be happy to serve you...

Feinkost Lampe: 26. Februar (KSV 018)

Recorded, as might be inferred from the title, at Feinkost Lampe, Hannover, on February 26, 2009. Karl left his digital recorder at home by accident, so he deployed a Sony DSC-S800 camera and captured the bulk of the evening's performances.

RK2 hail from Hannover. Liondialer split their time between London and Berlin.

For this performance, RK2 were: Andreas Brüning (bass), Torsten Heilmann (elektronik), Ruediger Klose (federphon, etc.). The fourth member of the combo, Jan Gieseke (elektronik und percussion), was unable to attend. Liondialer are: Greg Haines and Danny Saul (cello, acoustic guitar, voice, and electronics).

01 26. Februar (37:24)
02 Version (37.24)

Intense, crypto-krank improvisations battle calcified shards of sloughed causality...

File conversion, edit, mix and mastering by Karl Schmidt at HQ, Hannover, April 2009.

Sleeve by Jens Meier.

Edition of 20.

Tom Smith & Blue Sabbath Black Fiji - Ich werde nicht nackt sein (KSV 022)

The evening before Tim Lane Seaton arrived in Hannover to begin rehearsals for the Rope Cosmetology tour, I joined forces with Blue Sabbath Black Fiji to improvise a wrathful demiurge capable of winning three falls out of five with Die Kosmokrator...

Digital room recording, Silke Arp Bricht, Hannover, March 24, 2009.

01 Untitled I and II (with Pause) (44:00)
02 Every Third Aversion (11:32)

Charles Lavenac (guitar, voice, electronics)
Janin Benecke (guitar, electronics)
Tom Smith (voice)

Live mix by Olaf Voigt.

Mixed and produced Karl Schmidt at KSV HQ, Hannover, April-May 2009.

Sleeve by Michele Kaufmann.

Edition of 20.

Pricing (new):

€ 8.49 within the EU, €10 outside the EU. Postage paid. Add €1 for each additional album.

(Sorry, but glossy double-sided color A4s and postage have become more expensive. I'll try to hold the line on these prices as long as possible...)

Forthcoming on KSV!

Liebe Freunde,

Spring has once again been beaten back here in Hannover. It's a cold, drizzly afternoon, and I feel more like curling up next to the dog than clattering in the kitchen...

Re KSV, one or two of the following may be ready by tomorrow:

KSV 017 Female Reggae Showcase - Kid Traumgekrönt/U-Hölderlin Super-Clash!

KSV 018 Feinkost Lampe: 26 Februar (RK2 vs. Liondialer)

KSV 019 Three Resurrected Drunkards - Begriffsschrift 1999! (2 discs!)

KSV 020 Rope Cosmetology - Spezial: Gedankengefüge (Compound Thought) (2 discs!)

KSV 021 Rope Cosmetology - Diffusion de la rue de la Double Identité (limited-edition, already sold out; a few copies possibly available through Tochnit Aleph distribution)

(Diffusion was created for attendees of Ropecosm's April 11, 2009 performance at Silke Arp Bricht in Hannover. Additionally, Tochnit Aleph recieved five copies of the album, and three of our most avid KSV supporters were mailed the collection, which documented RC's April 3rd debut concert in Paris. It was thus an edition of 18... They're gone, man, gone!)

KSV 022 Tom Smith vs. Blue Sabbath Black Fiji - Ich werde nicht nackt sein

Obsessively check back with us for developments, seen?

Bad news: prices are going to have to be raised a few Euro. Printing and postage costs are killing me.

I will compensate for your discomfort by raising the quality bar ever higher - these next releases are off the virus-spattered meathook...

Bis Bald,

TS

Three Resurrected Drunkards: Performance #2!

Hello Again,

My new duo project with Pit Noack, Three Resurrected Drunkards, recklessly and reverently christened after Nagisa Oshima's 1968 film, will air more of its disagreeable laundry on March 6 at Silke Arp Bricht in Hannover. Sell something and fly over - we have recently minted songs and a wicked speaker array... Pit's playing six tape decks, and I'm singing.

(Poster designed by Claudia Franke, adapted from a sketch by Stefan Roigk. Click above for a larger version of the image...)

Bis Bald,

Tom

About Karl Schmidt Verlag...

Hallo Droogs,

My first night in Hannover with mein frau, Claudia Franke, was spent primarily at Silke Arp Bricht, the sub-basement venue now celebrating twenty years of chaos, smoke, and convivial, limitless toilet queues. After I'd spent a few minutes loitering by the bar, a friend of a friend introduced himself to me. He wanted to know what I was doing in such a moribund provincial capital, one with no scene, an apathetic populace, the usual loser litany. At that moment, Karl Schmidt Verlag, in all its impoverished grandiosity, was conceived.

I knew that very smart people were creating compelling, assaultive, perhaps even wholly other art in Hannover, and I'd seen evidence -- shredded fliers, fading handbills on lampposts and fuseboxes -- of sporadic demonic activity. The only problem was that the flailing sputters and blood-flecked declamations weren't being adequately transcribed. Things happened -- Pit Noack's Salon, the odd interesting Glocksee gig, the Silke offshoot, Silly Art Fick -- but without a firm (and appropriately calloused) curatorial hand. The "scene" existed, and thus did not require creation, but connective filaments needed to be sutured and tightly wound. There was a need for a foolhardy publisher. Claudia gave the label its name.

The overriding aesthetic of KSV is one of immediacy - we'll publish instant releases, documents of actions and processes serving both as artifacts and communiques.

Each release is packaged in a hand-folded, full-color, double-sided paper sleeve designed and executed by a loose consortium of superb Hannoverian graphic artists: Andrea Elsper, Aenne Langhorst, Tobias Prinz, and Steffi Bruhn.

Here are the first two releases:

KSV 001 TLASILA - Konstriktion und Narzissmus (CDR)

KSV 002 Analog Suicide / Hull Curve - Live at Pit's Salon (CDR)

(Sleeve by Aenne Langhorst.)

Analog Suicide: Batur Sonmez

Hull Curve: Karsten Fecht

Edition of 50. (47 remain.)

---

Forthcoming:

KSV 003 Andreas, Nils & Tom - Extracts and Deformations (CDR)

(With a sleeve created by Steffi Bruhn; edition of 30.)

KSV 004 Tom Smith - Limmerstrasse Vol. 1 (CDR)

Editions will never be larger than 50 units. If we eventually move to vinyl pressings, those will never be larger than 300 units. Cassettes will always be restricted to 20 copies.
